Indoor Flower Power
March 2010 Homestead Magazine Cover
By Dale MacDonald

Here's how to grow your own cut-flower garden

The cut-your-own bouquet garden at Gwynne's Greenhouse in Lyons, Colo., is so sensational you can't help but wonder how in the world she does it. Dahlias look good enough to eat. Zinnias thrive in so many colors and sizes it doesn’t seem possible. Sunflowers and coneflowers and salvias simply glow. If there are flower gods, they live here.

"Good cutting gardens have a lot of variety," says Gwynne Owen, the greenhouse's owner. "They need many different colors and shapes and sizes. The other thing to remember when you plan a bouquet garden is there are no rules. You are bringing them inside, so grow what you like. Colors, especially, are strictly your deal. Everyone's different."

To learn more about Cut-Flower Gardening, read the March 2010 issue of Homestead Magazine.
