The Deere-Wiman House and the Butterworth Home are two majestic mansions built in the late 1800s by Charles Deere, son of John Deere. He built the beautiful, three-story Victorian Deere-Wiman home in 1872 for himself and his wife. Later, in 1892, Charles Deere built the Butterworth Home as a wedding gift for his daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and William Butterworth.
The Deere-Wiman Home is beautifully preserved and decorated in elegant Victorian style. A special feature of the Butterworth Home includes a 16th Century Italian ceiling painting.
Both homes are located in the Overlook Historic Neighborhood in Moline, Illinois and offer an extraordinary journey into the past. Elaborate gardens are open year round, and today are the site of several cultural arts events.
