Energy Wood Harvester Gets Star Treatment

Energy Wood Harvester
The DIY Network has cast a new star in its Cool Tools TV series — the John Deere Eco III Energy Wood Harvester. In fact, this harvester is the only forestry machine showcased in the network's "Mega Machine" episode of the popular Cool Tools program.

The Energy Wood Harvester's unique talents of bundling slash into green bioenergy are front and center in a three-minute segment. But is forestry a DIY job? "While the Do It Yourself Network's Cool Tools television program usually gives viewers an insider's look at the changing tools marketplace," says the program's Associate Producer Scott Hiller, "the 'Mega Machines' episode features several really big machines." So kids, don't try this at home.

The Cool Tools episode features an Energy Wood Harvester owned by C&C Logging in a segment shot on March 27 in Kelso, Washington. Both the machine's operator Ron Endres and John Deere Forestry District Sales Manager Mike Hafner were interviewed about what makes the bundler a "cool tool." Good question. What does make this tool so darn cool?

John Deere Forestry Renewables Manager Mike Schmidt has the answer. "The cool thing about the bundler is it can help manage forest health and offers the logging industry an opportunity to develop new sources of income through the collection of woody biomass, a carbon-neutral renewable-energy source. The compression process is fully automated and impressive to see in action." Hey, that is pretty cool.
