2009 John Deere Forestry Press Release
John Deere Introduces New 3754D Swing Machine
MOLINE, Illinois (February 23, 2009) — John Deere Forestry introduces the John Deere 3754D to its lineup of robust D-Series Swing Machines. With its durable redesigned structure and a Tier 3-compliant engine, the 3754D boasts increased power yet promotes fuel efficiency.
"The John Deere 3754D Swing Machine is specifically designed to prolong uptime, with a new 9.0L 271-hp engine boosting fuel efficiency and a standard 277-gallon fuel tank extending run-time between fill ups," said Dave McFarlane, John Deere swing machine product marketing manager. "The 3754D is the toughest swing machine in the forest."
"Other product features to boost the efficiency of the 3754D include an updated hydraulic system that advances attachment performance and machine smoothness, and facilitates faster cycle times. Other improvements, such as easily accessible external debris management screens, newly designed heavy duty structures, hardened pins and tighter tolerances in critical joints, and better component protection, all help to reduce downtime," McFarlane said.
Hydraulic System
The 3754D incorporates many of the hydraulic upgrades of John Deere D-Series construction excavators - maintaining its reputation for best-in-class hydraulic control and multifunction ability and advancing hydraulic performance.
Productivity is increased through the engine/hydraulic management system that maximizes power and hydraulic output, saves fuel, and delivers smooth multifunctional hydraulic operation.
By using the 450D undercarriage and drive system, the swing machine has superior strength as well as enough track power to get it where it needs to go. The propel motors are located well within the track frames and are heavily guarded.
External Debris Management/Cooling System
Heavy gauge perforated and removable inlet screens are mounted externally, adding protection from damage as well as minimizing cooling system plugging.
The "smart cooling system" is hydraulically driven, with a cool-on-demand variable-speed fan that runs only when needed. This new cooling technology keeps the machine operating at optimum temperature, while reducing noise and fuel consumption. Optional reversing fan back blows cooler cores to reduce debris buildup and increase uptime.
Component Protection
Protection from the harsh forest environment is essential to the uptime of forestry equipment. A heavy-duty three-piece engine hood protects the 3754D engine, promotes debris shedding, and provides easy access to components for daily maintenance. Additional guarding protects the exhaust stack and hydraulic oil fill cap.
Other advances over previous models that increase uptime include:
- Strengthened mainframe that boasts a stronger boom tower with increased edge distance, thicker sections that are machined after welding to improve frame to boom tolerances and overall machine durability.
- Strengthened log loader boom structures, and turned and ground pins in critical joints.
- A heel rack completely redesigned from the larger wide flat heeling plates to the grapple end, with 2.5 times the strength and a 43-foot reach.
- An improved plumbing system betters hydraulic flow to attachments and heightens piping integrity.
- The Butt-N-Top and Power Grapple fronts, with 38-foot four-inch reach, now have OEM grapple tool cylinders, which will not only increase productivity but will also improve durability and serviceability.
- Roadbuilder purpose-built, heavy-duty fronts provide extended service life to these fronts, which sport a plate thickness 2-3 mm thicker than previous models and fewer welded joints.
The 3754D joins the 2154D, 2454D and 2954D in the new generation of John Deere Swing Machines.
