John Deere Units Earn Safety Awards

(October 13, 2009) – John Deere units will receive 44 safety awards from the National Safety Council at the council's National Safety Congress Oct. 27.

Included are 35 Deere units that will receive the organization's Occupational Excellence Achievement Award. Nine units have earned the Industry Leader Award, which recognizes the top 5% of recipients of the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award.

The Occupational Excellence Award recognizes units that report injury and illness rates that are less than half the average of organizations in their Standard Industrial Classification code and have no fatalities during the year. The rates are calculated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and are based on 2008 safety performance.

The awards will be presented at the National Safety Congress in Orlando, Florida.

The National Safety Council is a nonprofit public service organization that works to educate and influence people to prevent accidental injury and death. NSC members include more than 51,000 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups, and individuals. Members apply for recognition based on their safety records.

John Deere has received 1,070 safety awards since NSC started its recognition program.
