Frequently Asked Questions

John Deere Power Systems Marine FAQs

What are the marine emissions requirements?

Tier 3 marine regulations will not take effect until after 2010. Tier 2 marine engines may be installed in new and converted vessels until the next Tier of marine emissions standards are effective. The EPA plans to publish the next Tier marine standards in 2007 with an effective date sometime between 2010 and 2012.

Where can I receive price quotes on marine engines?

To get price quotes on engines and engine availability, contact your nearest John Deere marine engine distributor. Use our Dealer Locator to find the nearest distributor, or Contact Us and we can direct you to the appropriate distributor.

If I'm repowering a boat that has a Tier 2 engine in it, what are
my choices?

If a boat has a Tier 2 engine, the replacement engine must also be a Tier 2 engine. You are allowed to install a used Tier 2 engine or a rebuilt Tier 2 engine, but the used or rebuilt engine must be an engine that originally met the Tier 2 emissions standard, carries a Tier 2 emissions label and has been maintained or rebuilt with emissions compliant parts.
